DMSO: Warning, please read before use (1)
The biggest thing to understand is 'problem potential' with DMSO. I will
explain...
Sometime back, I believe it was Monsanto Corp, ran some testing on the
possibility of using DMSO 'wipes' to remove headaches. They worked 100%.
The results were seen in seconds, where taking aspirin would take a half
hour + before results were seen. Very promising results. However, they
knew the properties of DMSO carrying 'other' agents into the body along with
DMSO, so along with the 'wipes' they tested an 'alcohol scrub' to pre-clean
the area, to remove other unwanted things from being brought into the body
along with the DMSO. The results were not too good. In fact, they were
downright bad. No matter how they pre-cleaned an area, they could not get
rid of 100% 'other agents' that posed a potential health risk if absorbed
into the body.
To top that off, they could find NO reliable method of removing all
potential hazards.
You see, our 'skin' is an organ, just as much as anything else. It acts
as a 'filter' keeping out bad stuff as much as it holds us together. DMSO
literally can 'bypass' the inherent filtering process of the skin. In
there, lies the 'potential risk'.
Now, unless you have seen what happens to a person when they get
something 'past their skin' and into their blood stream, you may think DMSO
is a great thing. I, however, worked at a hospital for awhile, and let me
tell you its not pretty. Once, a painter came into the ER, after accidently
'spraying' his finger with a high powered paint sprayer. The affected area
was about 1 cm. by 1cm. Hardly noticeable and less than a drop had thought
to have gotten 'under' the skin. The painter just kind of brushed it off.
The painter thought nothing of it for a day or so. But his arm was hurting
by the 3rd day so he went to the ER. They removed the mans arm at the
shoulder, but by then the paint had gotten further than they thought. 3
days later he died due to clotting and the infectious process started off by
the paint.
But you may say 'isolated case, I'm not putting THAT much of anything
into my body'. Think again if you are using DMSO. Bacteria in the gut die
and release toxins into our fecal material as the food passes through our
body. Not everything you eat is 'digested' or 'absorbed'. Much passes
through our intestines. DMSO will pass through your skin to your gut AND
passes back into the body (think blood stream here). It literally can pick
up toxins that you 'cant' even see or fathom existing inside you and bring
them into the body/blood stream. Will that kill you? Not necessarily, but
it could. Will it happen every time? No. But odds are that eventually it
could. When it does, you don't have much choice. By then it will be too
late. So you have to ask yourself, is it worth it? I wouldnt say so...
Now, again, I am not saying 'dont' do it. People do crazier things and live
fine. I've seen what it can do. Not fun.

I replied to this message, stating that DMSO is anti-bacterial and might kill the bacteria.
I also stated DMSO is not able to take big molecules a free ride into your body because they don't fit through your skin.
This is the reply :
Hey Ed!
Feel free to post wherever you need to!
BTW -- DMSO is a solvent, and there ARE purer forms of DMSO available.
Also, to understand the mode of transport of a 'particle' or 'bacteria' into
the body, you have to think of the old 'egg in a milk bottle' trick that was
done many times (or at least we did it as school children many times, that
is awhile back.. This was how it was explained to me by a chemist.. I will
explain, it may be a little off of exactly what he said, but this is fairly
close -
Think of the skin like you would a window screen, wind freely passes through
it, but bugs stay out. Smells pass through it and small dust, but most
larger things dont. In the skins case, the holes in the screen are
flexible. They can expand and contract, that is how we perspire and how
salt blocks the holes so if we eat alot of salt, it keeps the moisture in,
because its just small enough to get in, but inhibits water getting out.
Now think of each cell or part of the screen as a small bottle or balloon
that holds a certain amount of water. and that water constantly flows
'outward' as it evaporates off the skin osmosis pulls more water into the
cell from the inside. It can expand and hold more water, or contract as
water leaves it. DMSO readily passes through the skin or screen and
reverses the osmosis instead of inside to out, it goes outside to in. It
changes the pressure inside the cells as it goes. Now, in the 'egg in the
bottle' example, the bottle is heated up and then the egg is placed over the
mouth of the bottle. When the bottle cools, the pressure inside the bottle
changes from high to low and the egg is literally 'sucked' into the bottle.
DMSO acts this same way. As it passes out of the cell, it creates a
pressure differential between the outside of the cell and the inside. Like
the egg and bottle. Since the holes in the screen 'stretch', somewhat
larger particles can get sucked in. Somewhat forcibly but not much.
Repeating this over and over, and slowly larger 'particles 'can' get sucked
from cell to cell inward. While DMSO is somewhat antiseptic, you must
realize that your skin is loaded with bacteria, dirt, dust, mites, etc. and
it isnt the act of mixing 'with' the DMSO that pulls it into the skin, its
the pressure change AFTER the DMSO is leaving a cell that pulls it through.
Even still, if a dead bacteria is pulled in, the body still has to deal with
the 'carcass'. The attack by white blood cells, macrophages etc, increases
the inherent 'size' of the particle somewhat, which can cause dangerous
clots.
Another good example is that of the 'flesh eating' virus, a strain of
streptococcus. This virus, exists everywhere. We breathe it in and almost
100% of the time it does nothing to us. That is because our skin and lungs
etc filter it out. The most common cause of problems with it, is when it
enters a cut or scratch in the skin. Once 'inside' it can spread far more
rapidly than the body can remove it, because it replicates with the cells
and within cells. Literally, it can eat a person alive within days. Now,
when you bypass or change the nature of the skins protective properties, you
are creating a gateway for virus's like this to enter your system.
Again, does this happen ALL the time. No. But the problem is that if
it happens to you once, you usually dont get a second shot at it.
In the olden days, DMSO was definitly not as pure as today's products.
This can account for alot of the 'early' problems with it. The medically
used and over-the-counter stuff we have today is typically far purer. But
its not fool proof.
(Hope I wasnt too wordy..)
